March 31st is Trans Day of Visibility. Today marks a time to celebrate trans and non-binary people and to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by the community worldwide. It provides an opportunity for trans and non-binary people to feel seen through positive and realistic representation – and for allies to learn more about how they can stand in solidarity.
Visibility is crucial. The Trans Flag is flying high on our Rooftop Terrace, on one of Edinburgh’s highest flag poles, which can be seen from all over the city.
Assistant Manager Lars Winter said “We are incredibly happy to be celebrating Trans Visibility Day. At Camera Obscura we offer a fully inclusive and supportive workplace and are proud to have staff and visitors from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum who are free to be themselves.”
It is a day of celebration, to make visible community and shared lived experience. This year, we want to hold space in that celebration for Trans joy. To celebrate diverse transgender narratives, as particularly in hard times, Trans joy can be revolutionary in and of itself. A Trans experience of fun, love, connection, community, support and laughter is one to be celebrated.
