LIVE VIEWCAMS & FUN STUFF

View VideoState of the art viewcams allow you to spy on people going about their business.  These are very popular.  Sharp eyed visitors may spot a ‘bendy man’ or two, relaxing on our rooftop terrace. You can also travel down an infinity corridor to a starry galaxy of lights, see how many colours you can make with your shadow and change your face in our morph machine.  Be careful though you may stay a monkey for ever.

Morph Machine
We have teamed up with the Perception Lab at the University of St. Andrews to present 'Face morph'.
Sit inside, have your photo taken then see yourself change for example into an ape or a baby- and still recognise yourself. The exhibit exists as a 'photo booth' style structure, housing a fascinating piece of morphing software. The software takes a photograph of the user's face before morphing it into something different. There are many transforms available from making yourself look older to making yourself look like a chimpanzee! The exhibit is a big hit with all our visitors.

Viewcams
Our live powerful viewcams are located on the rooftop of the building and give you a panoramic view of the city of Edinburgh. With your control you can zoom in and out and look all over town and far beyond.

Have a closer look at some of the most fascinating architectural details of the city and also a great view of the hills and countryside surrounding Edinburgh. And of course spy on people.

You will be able to see the famous Forth road and Rail bridges, watch the one o’clock ball drop on the Nelson monument, and much more. Children will also enjoy spotting the bendy men around the building.

  What visitors thought
Awesome exhibits and the Camera Obscura itself is FAB! Great display of pinhole camera prints- also a lot of interesting information. I would recommend this to anybody! 100% thanks.

It was a wonderful experience seeing 3D images of buildings and streets in this city. It is amazing this camera was made as early as 1853 - over 150 years ago.

I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures that were 3D when you adjust your eyes. I used to enjoy the books but had forgotten how to do it. Once I had got the hang of it again I found it quite easy.

I found the pinhole camera pictures and their respective details absolutely fascinating.

I liked the fact that my children spent time looking, reading and laughing. Usually they rush round an exhibit and make a bee line for the gift shop!!I liked the optical illusions, the magic eye paintings. The kids liked the one where you could transform your face into a baby, ape etc.

It was great being able to take our time in there and really experience everything and not be hurried through. It was all fascinating and some of it was just awsome. My daughter loved the morphing machine and we both loved the corridor of infinity but really it was all brilliant.
