As August draws closer we’re getting ready to survive the festival madness that descends on Edinburgh. As home to the biggest and best festivals in the world, it can be a little overwhelming, so where do you start? Don’t panic, we’re here to give you some top tips while visiting Edinburgh and Camera Obscura & World of Illusions. Visit our Getting Here page for more helpful info.
1. Wear sensible/comfy shoes
Sounds obvious, but there is a lot of walking to be done in Edinburgh and at Camera Obscura. We have six floors with the most spectacular rooftop views as well as over 100 interactive exhibitions you won’t want to miss.
2. Arrive early
With so much to do, you’ll want to get started as early as possible to fit it all in. Camera Obscura has the longest opening hours of any attraction in the city open 8am-10pm every day. So arrive early or later in the evening to beat the queues and have a fantastic time! An average visit takes 1.5-2 hours.
3. Edinburgh is open for business everyday
The city that never sleeps, during the festival anyway! We’re open 7 days a week until 10pm.
4. Allow time and be prepared
Edinburgh is the perfect size for walking around, with so much to discover from an extinct volcano to an underground street! However, during August the city’s population doubles, that’s over 1 million people. Do a bit of research before you start out, making sure you know where you’re going and allow plenty of time to get there, navigating crowds. Camera Obscura is situated at the top of Castlehill, right beside Edinburgh Castle, and it can get very busy.
