Camera Obscura achieves Green Tourism Gold Award
We are delighted to have been awarded Gold in the Green Tourism scheme! We first joined the Green Tourism Scheme in 2018 with a bronze award, we were awarded silver in 2022 and have now achived gold.
Our feedback from the Green Tourism team: "Camera Obscura & World of Illusions have done an excellent job in achieving the Green Tourism Gold award following on from initial silver. The team have displayed an excellent understanding of sustainability and awareness of opportunities and challenges associated with running a responsible business. They have shown a willingness to learn and expand their knowledge of sustainable practises. They put this new knowledge into motion and are willing to try new procedures and try products, some are successful, other need to be looked at, such as in the case of the laundry sheets. This is good as operating a business sustainably, is not a rigid process and businesses should look at what works for them and what doesn't, search for and evaluate new products that may suit your setup better."
Here at Camera Obscura we are dedicated to local and national sustainability and to becoming as environmentally friendly as possible. We want Edinburgh to be a world class visitor destination in terms of sustainability and are doing our part to achieve this. Our former owner, Patrick Geddes coined the phrase ‘Think global, act local’. We use this maxim to guide our operation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding all environmental legislation as well as the Equality Act 2010, and being assessed under the Green Tourism Business Scheme shows our dedication to this.
While we're delighted about achieving our gold award, we know this isn't the end of our sustainability journey and we're looking forward to building on our progress this year. Read more about our green efforts here, or learn about the Green Tourism scheme here.
