Edinburgh's Best Hidden Gems
Everyone loves Edinburgh's well known highlights, but it's often the hidden gems that are the most memorable! We've made a list of some of our favourite spots around the city that you might not have heard of, but should definitely check out.
Blackford Hill
This one is more known to locals but not to tourists, maybe because it's outside the city centre bubble. Everyone's climbed Arthur's Seat, but if you haven't walked up Blackford Hill, you haven't seen the best views. Don't worry - it's a much smaller and quicker climb than Arthur! We recommend heading south through the Meadows and Marchmont, grab a coffee and pastry to enjoy at the top, and just sit and enjoy the view.
Hideout Cafe
Just around the corner from us at Camera Obscura, this cosy wee cafe has a tasty selection of fresh sandwiches, cakes and pastries. It does the impossible - creates a quiet and calm atmosphere in the middle of one of Scotland's busiest streets! The smell of roasted coffee beans and the sound of clinking coffee cups is all you need for a chill cafe experience during your day out in Edinburgh.
Panda & Sons
Hidden away in new town, you could easily miss this secret spot. It appears to be a barber, but when you go downstairs there's a vintage speakeasy-inspired bar that offers amazing cocktails and an extensive wine list. Popular among locals, it's the perfect spot for a date night or a few relaxed drinks.
Civerinos
This isn't just another pizza restaurant! The delicious fresh pizza, the indulgent sides, the cool vibes, it all makes for a top-tier experience. You might have heard of them before as they've expanded into a few locations across the city, but if you haven't tried them yet we definitely recommend them as the number one pizza to try in Edinburgh. Civerinos also offer a 15% discount to anyone with a Camera Obscura ticket - how generous of them!
Dean Village
This little spot is gradually becoming more well known, which isn't surprising given how picturesque it is. You would be forgiven for forgetting you're in a capital city, as Dean Village surrounds you with narrow cobbled streets, quaint cottages and a flowing stream. You can stroll from here along the water to Stockbridge, where you can explore the small independent shops and enjoy a busy market on Sundays.
Of course, we couldn't make a list of the best spots in Edinburgh without mentioning our very own Camera Obscura & World of Illusions. We're often described as a "hidden gem" but we're easy to find right next to the Castle, and you'll recognise our wee black and white tower on the skyline from wherever you are in the city. We've got 5 floors of hands-on exhibits, stunning rooftop views and demonstrations of our famous 170 year old Camera Obscura. Don't take out word for it, go to our website for more info and to book tickets.
